The cottage kitchens at Lydhurst are beautiful and well equipped; we’ve done our best to make the ‘self’ part of self-catering as blissful as possible. We are happy for you to book a grocery delivery during your stay and we can direct you to the local shops, including wonderful independent butchers, farm shops and weekend markets. A few of our favourites include the weekly Saturday food market in Horsham, where you can pick-up artisanal bread from the wonderful Lewes based bakery, the Flint Owl, as well as excellent locally produced sausages, spirits and even macarons. Or visit the excellent farm shop, Rushfields, with award winning pies, an amazing cheese counter, and even ice cream from the cult Brighton based gelateria, Boho Gelato. We are lucky to have one of the best butchers in Sussex, S.K. Hutchings, in a neighbouring village. And to really explore the best of our local suppliers, we’d always suggest a visit to the Sussex Produce Company, a beautiful store and cafe in the charming village of Steyning, dedicated almost entirely to Sussex sourced food and drink.

If, however, you fancy a night off we’ve found a pretty great solution. We call it Friday Night Suppers – a seasonal menu of meals we’ve developed with our friend, Dan, a great local chef and super nice person. These meals can be ordered in advance and waiting for you when you arrive at your cottage (delivered on a Friday but up to you when you eat!). Presented in classic blue and white Falconware enamel dishes, these meals can be simply heated in the oven or brought up to room temp whenever suits. You can choose fresh delicious salads with homemade house dressing, locally sourced meat dishes, and of course veggie and plant-based options too. Plus, a range of homemade puddings. We think these suppers are tops and can vouch that quite a few of Dan’s dishes are on regular rotation in our own kitchen.
Dan will also work with Lydhurst guests to develop bespoke menu options for a special day, or to cater for any dietary requirements.

We are also well served with a great array of West Sussex based pubs, restaurants and cafes, including the excellent Half Moon pub in Warninglid. No trip to Lydhurst is complete without at least one stagger to our local, and we love the Half Moon for a romantic dinner, a family lunch or just taking the dog round for a cheeky pint.
Our closest neighbouring village, Cuckfield, has a wonderful café, Toms (the best coffee in the area), a number of pubs and two fine dining restaurants. Brighton has an incredible food scene and is an easy drive/taxi ride. There are lots of other great eating options that we are happy to suggest and recommend for every budget, group or circumstance.

We are in the midst of an English wine revolution and Lydhurst is situated right in the heart of Sussex wine country, with its award winning sparkling wines. All our guests are presented with a highly quaffable bottle of local wine on arrival. We recommend unreservedly a visit to our neighbours, the beautiful Bolney wine estate, with its charming café, shop and tasting room. Other wine tours around local vineyards can also be arranged.
